- Trump has been gagged from attacking prosecutors and court staff in NY case
- Jury selection is due to start next week in his first criminal trial
- Allies are stepping up the heat, exposing what they say is partisan interference
Trump allies will step up their attacks on prosecutors investigating the former president next week, with the launch of an online documentary accusing them of political activism and electioneering.
‘Chasing Trump’ is due to be released on April 17, two days after a court in New York will have begun jury selection in the first of Trump’s four criminal prosecutions.
Its producers say it will delve into backgrounds of the prosecutors overseeing each of the cases.
And with the former president subject to a New York gag order preventing him from attacking witnesses, prosecutors, jurors and court staff, as well as their relatives, it is another example of how he is relying on MAGA world to dish dirt on his accusers.
‘”Chasing Trump” is an important documentary that exposes the leftwing prosecutors weaponizing the government to target my father,’ Donald Trump Jr. told DailyMail.com.
‘It’s the first documentary to do a deep dive into the backgrounds of the prosecutors behind the four cases against him and is a must watch for anyone who cares about preserving the rule of law and protecting our constitutional rights.’
Next week the world will witness the unprecedented spectacle of a former U.S. president reporting to court for the start of a criminal trial.
Jury selection is due to begin next Monday in Trump’s hush money case. He is accused of falsifying business records to hide payments to a porn star during the 2016 presidential campaign.
He denies all 34 charges as well as having an affair with Stormy Daniels.
Manhattan district attorney Alvin L. Bragg is leading the prosecution.
He is one of the targets of the filmmakers, along with Fani Willis, who is bringing the election fraud case in Georgia, Special Counsel John Smith, who is leading a separate 2020 election case and the classified documents case in Florida, as well as New York Attorney General Letitia James, who won a $454 million civil settlement against Trump for fraudulently inflating his net worth.
‘Four corrupt, politically motivated prosecutors. One target: Donald Trump,’ intones the narrator of a trailer shared with DailyMail.com
‘They say they’re upholding the law. But a close examination reveals politics of the very worst kind meant to influence the 2024 election.’
It makes the case that Trump is being punished for taking on the status quo and echoes his constant refrain that he is subject to a witch hunt.
It is an argument he is banned from makingin the New York case, where Judge Juan Merchan imposed a gag order.
The former president has had to use new tactics to make his point, sailing dangerously close to flouting the restriction at times.
Last week he shared a six-minute video clip of Fox News host Brian Kilmeade and George Washington Law Professor Jonathan Turley, raising concerns about the daughter of Judge Merchan.
‘Also, the fact is, the judge’s daughter is an activist who works for Kamala Harris’ said, Kilmeade, referencing one of Loren Merchan’s firm’s accounts.
The new documentary is one of the way’s Trump’s allies are taking up the argument on his behalf.
‘Chasing Trump’ is the first in a series to be produced by the conservative website American Greatness.
Curt Mercadenta, managing editor of American Greatness, said it would shock anyone who believed the legal system was free from partisan political considerations.
‘With the 2024 election starting to heat up, it’s imperative that Americans have the opportunity to learn more about the truth behind the prosecutions targeting President Trump, along with the partisan prosecutors behind the cases,’ he said.
Mike Davis, founder of the Article III Project, which was set up to press for conservative judicial nominees and now campaigns against what it sees as liberal activism in the courts, said: ‘These four prosecutions against President Trump are nothing more than partisan political activism masquerading as the rule of law.
‘”Chasing Trump” exposes the leftwing prosecutors behind these cases as nothing more than puppets for Joe Biden and his political machine.”
