The FBI no longer believes there are other suspects in the Bourbon Street terror attack, Fox News has confirmed.
Authorities now believe suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar acted alone when he drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers on Wednesday morning, killing 14 people before engaging in a brief shootout with police. Jabbar was shot and killed by officers who returned fire.
Federal investigators are conducting sweeps in three U.S. cities as part of the ongoing investigations into the New Orleans attack and an explosion outside Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Wednesday.
In New Orleans, authorities are searching an Airbnb believed to have been rented by shooting suspect Jabbar.
The FBI office in Houston also executed a search warrant at a home connected to the Bourbon Street suspect near the intersection of Hugh Road and Crescent Peak Drive on Wednesday. The area remained blocked off by law enforcement Thursday morning.
The FBI deputy assistant director provided a timeline of the attack. He said investigators believe Jabbar picked up his rented Ford F150 truck in Houston, Texas on Dec. 30. He then drove from Houston to New Orleans on the evening of the 31st, and he posted several videos on Facebook declaring support for ISIS.
“In the first video, Jabbar explains he only planned to harm his family and friends, but was concerned the news headlines would not focus on the ‘war between the believers and the disbelievers,'” Raja said.
Jabbar also stated he had joined ISIS before this summer and provided a will and testament, according to the FBI.
Raja said investigators had recovered several weapons from the scene of the crime and nearby areas, including two improvised explosive devices in coolers located at the cross section of Bourbon and Orleans Streets and at a second intersection just two blocks away. He added that the FBI wants to talk to witnesses who may have seen the coolers containing IEDs.
Meanwhile, in Colorado, the FBI Denver office executed a search in Colorado Springs related to the investigation into a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside of the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Wednesday.
