- Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s explicit song WAP came under fire from Tucker Carlson on Monday night and an anti-pornography group
- Carlson: Performance appeared to ‘degrade our culture and hurt our children’
- Anti-porn group said the scene belonged in a porn film rather than the Grammys
- The Grammy Awards performance on Sunday night saw the two rappers perform their hit single with its provocative lyrics
- Cardi B kicked off the song by dancing against a pole, fashioned as the stiletto of a giant high heel, before being joined by a group of backup dancers
- She was joined by fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion on a massive bed, crawling and intertwining their legs as they danced together
Speaking to Carlson, conservative author and political commentator, Candace Owens said the performance was essentially pornography.
‘Virtually, what we were looking at last night was a lesbian sex scene being simulated on television, and this is considered feminist.
‘This feels more sinister. This is starting to me to seem like it’s not even left or right, it’s not a political issue. This seems like an attack on American values, American traditions, and you’re actually actively trying to make children aspire to things that are grotesque,’ she added, calling it a celebration of ‘perversity’,’ Owens said.
‘You have these kids learning about critical race theory, they’re learning that they should aspire to people like Cardi B. You see that fundamentally we are seeing the destruction of American values, American principles.’
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s dance routine for their song WAP contained x-rated pole-dancing by the pair leading to criticism online and one anti-porn group labeled the performance as ‘hardcore’ porn.
The dueling rappers left little to the imagination in their ode to female anatomy, marking the first time they’ve performed the hit live.
Carlson wasn’t the only one to take offense at the routine with an anti-porn group saying the show contributed to the sexual exploitation of women’ and the ‘normalization’ of porn culture.
Cardi B responded to the furore in a Twitter posting on Monday night.
‘Conservatives been making viral tweets comparing WAP to the banning of some of Dr Seuss books as if there’s any correlations between the two ….Well I can DEFINITELY tell some of ya ONLY read dr Seuss books cause ya mind lacks comprehension,’ the singer wrote.
‘When has a school made kids read the lyrics to wap? I get it wap might be a lil vulgar but stop comparing a sensual song to books that has RACIST content! How can ya not tell the difference?I see that common sense aint that common,’ she continued.
Although Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘WAP’ performance did inspire an immense amount of media coverage, it was not, in fact, able to score the Grammys good TV ratings:
Despite the raunchy performance, the ratings for the Grammy’s dropped to just 7.9 million viewers and believed to be the worst viewing figures ever for the award ceremony.
