Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said Monday that he would be “a pretty doggone wealthy man” if he had a dollar for every pro-lockdown politician who escaped their own draconian policies to vacation in Florida.

“Look, I think if you — if I had a dollar for every lockdown politician who decided to escape to Florida over the last 2 years… I’d be a pretty doggone wealthy man, let me tell ya,” DeSantis said.

“I mean, Congresspeople, mayors, governors, I mean, you name it. It’s interesting though, the reception that some of these folks will get in Florida. Because I think a lot of Floridians will say ‘Wait a minute, you’re bashing us because we’re not doing your draconian policies, and yet we’re the first place you want to flee to to basically to be able to enjoy life. And so I’m not surprised to see that continue to happen,” he added, apparently responding to the viral photos of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) vacationing in Florida over the New Year’s holiday — even as her constituents faced a record-breaking spike of COVID-19 cases back in New York City.

“I could tell you, I mean, there probably be about half a dozen governors who had restrictions on their people and then were spotted at various points in Florida. Some of it’s been public. Some of it’s not been public,” DeSantis added without naming anyone specifically.

Ocasio-Cortez took some criticism after photos surfaced of her vacationing maskless in Florida, especially considering the situation in her home district.

She was later spotted at a bar, where the critics continued to raise the alarm regarding her apparent hypocrisy. As The Daily Wire reported:

The news was first reported by Florida’s Conservative Voice. The group’s founder, Brendon Leslie, tweeted: “EXPOSED: AOC is STILL lounging it up in Florida, in large crowds and maskless. This time at a Drag Queen bar in Miami. Rules for thee but not for me.”

“For those of you with zero sense of humor: the whole point of this post is to expose hypocrisy,” Leslie continued. “We don’t actually care she’s maskless. We care she fear mongers about Florida but then has the audacity to vacation here.”

The New York Democratic Congresswoman responded to critics by suggesting that they were attracted to her and were being driven to attack her out of their own “sexual frustration.”

“If Republicans are mad they can’t date me they can just say that instead of projecting their sexual frustrations onto my boyfriend’s feet. Ya creepy weirdos,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, adding, “It’s starting to get old ignoring the very obvious, strange, and deranged sexual frustrations that underpin the Republican fixation on me, women, & LGBT+ people in general. These people clearly need therapy, won’t do it, and use politics as their outlet instead. It’s really weird.”
