- Klain tweeted soon after Macron became the first French president in 20 years to win re-election, beating far-right opponent Marine Le Pen
- It comes as a number of Democrats express concern about Biden’s low approval ratings, among other issues like his age, making him a bad 2024 candidate
- A recent poll has Biden’s approval rating lower than nearly all of his post-World War II predecessors at this point in their terms except for Donald Trump
- A Le Pen victory would have been a massive shakeup for Europe, which is already dealing with troubling waves of nationalism and authoritarianism
- Le Pen is close to Hungary’s far-right leader Viktor Orban and has previously expressed admiration for Vladimir Putin
- Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi hailed Emmanuel Macron’s win as ‘wonderful news for all of Europe after he won just over 58 percent of the vote
