Amazon says it will reimburse its staff $4,000 for travel and living costs if they have to go over 100 miles for an abortion or medical care – as firms react to bombshell Roe v Wade leak

  • Amazon told its staff on Monday it will pay up to $4,000 in travel expenses annually for non-life threatening medical treatments, including abortions
  • The decision comes after a leaked memo revealed that the U.S. Supreme Court could be poised to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade case
  • The new work benefit would apply to an employee if an operation could not be done within 100 miles of their home and virtual care is not accessible
  • Amazon joins more than 50 companies including Yelp and Citigroup, who have said they will reimburse employees who travel to avoid abortion restrictions
  • Amazon’s new benefits are effective retroactively from 1 January
