- They may pass a shortterm spending resolution known as a CR
- But Republicans want the CR to go past January 3rd – when they take power in the House and will wield more influence on the talks
- Democrats worry that could lead to cuts in social programs
- The two sides are roughly $26 billion apart in the $1.5 trillion spending package
