Amazon says it will reimburse its staff $4,000 for travel and living costs if they have to go over 100 miles for an abortion or medical care – as firms react to bombshell Roe v Wade leak
Amazon told its staff on Monday it will pay up to $4,000 in travel expenses annually for non-life threatening medical treatments, including abortions
The decision comes after a leaked memo revealed that the U.S. Supreme Court could be poised to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade case
The new work benefit would apply to an employee if an operation could not be done within 100 miles of their home and virtual care is not accessible
Amazon joins more than 50 companies including Yelp and Citigroup, who have said they will reimburse employees who travel to avoid abortion restrictions
Amazon’s new benefits are effective retroactively from 1 January
