Capitol Police are investigating after a bag of cocaine was found in a ‘heavily trafficked’ area.
The illicit drug was found on the second floor of the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) headquarters on Wednesday.
The 1-inch-by-1-inch Ziploc bag was found on the hallway floor in an area that has been used as a staging area for furniture and supplies, according to Capitol Police. The area is “heavily trafficked” by contractors and other employees, housing departments such as prisoner processing, crime scene, intelligence, and reports processing.
The bag was found just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday and was “immediately reported” to a Capitol Police supervisor. The bag was then tested and returned positive for cocaine.
It’s unclear whether Capitol Police officials have identified a suspect, but the agency said it would conduct further testing of the residue and DNA tests on the bag. The agency will provide more information “when it becomes available,” officials said.
