BREAKING NEWS: Georgia grand jury recommends INDICTMENTS for at least one witness in Trump election case who ‘lied under oath’ in probe into bid to overturn Biden’s 2020 win
- Fulton County judge released parts of report into Trump’s election subversion
- Grand jurors suggested witnesses lied under oath during the testimony
- Any recommendations to criminally charge Trump have been kept under wraps
A Georgia grand jury says at least one witness lied under oath when testifying about Donald Trump’s bid to overturn the 2020 election, and have urged prosecutors to slap them with a criminal indictment.
The bombshell allegations were included in parts of the Fulton County grand jury released by a judge on Thursday morning – that included the unanimous conclusion by the panel that was not widespread voter fraud in President Biden’s win.
Over the course of seven months, the grand jurors heard from 75 witnesses, which included the likes of high-profile politicians like Trump’s former attorney and ex-New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
Top Georgia officials, such as Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Governor Brian Kemp, also appeared before the panel.
The panel members urged prosecutors to seek indictments of any of those who committed perjury.
Whether there are any recommendations for criminal charges against Trump, however, have been kept under wraps for now.
But a Georgia prosecutor probing Trump’s efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 election told a judge last month that a decision on whether to bring criminal charges against the former president is ‘imminent.’
The partial release was ordered Monday by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney, who oversaw the special grand jury that had the power to suggest criminal indictments.
The investigation is one of several that could have serious legal consequences for the former president as he tries to persuade voters to return him to the White House in 2024.
During a hearing last month, prosecutors urged the judge not to release the report until they decide on charges.
McBurney wrote in his order that it’s not appropriate to release the full report now because it’s important to protect the due process rights of people for whom the grand jury recommended charges.
The special grand jury, which was requested by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to aid her investigation, did not have the power to issue indictments.
Instead, its report contains recommendations for Willis, who will ultimately decide whether to seek one or more indictments from a regular grand jury.
Trump, who has publicly refused to accept that Joe Biden won the November 2020 election, has seemed particularly bothered by his loss in Georgia and what he saw as a failure of Republican state elected officials to fight for him. Georgia tipped to Biden by about 12,000 votes, making him the first Democratic presidential candidate to win there since 1992.
