Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., is leading the call for Elon Musk to permit former President Donald Trump back on Twitter after the Tesla CEO purchased a 9.2% share of the social media giant.
“Now that @ElonMusk is Twitter’s largest shareholder, it’s time to lift the political censorship,” she tweeted on Monday. “Oh… and BRING BACK TRUMP!”
Musk has criticized Twitter and its policies recently and said the company is undermining democracy by not adhering to free speech principles, according to Reuters.
Musk has had a Twitter account since June 2009 and has over 80 million followers.
Now, conservatives are joining with Boebert in her call to reactivate Trump’s Twitter account. The account was permanently suspended in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol, Insider noted.
“Now that @elonmusk is Twitter’s largest shareholder, he should demand the end of political censorship, company-wide reform, and the reinstatement of President Trump,” tweeted Monica Crowley, the former assistant secretary of public affairs at the Treasury Department under Trump.
Errol Webber, a Republican House candidate from California, tweeted: “@ElonMusk is now the largest shareholder of Twitter. Time to get this platform back to its former glory.
“Step one – bring back President Trump!
“Step two – give everyone who has been banned a second chance.
“Step three – end all forms of political and other censorship.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., said in a tweet: “Will the new majority shareholder return freedom of speech to Twitter? It will require courage bc the regime is heavily investing in a certain industry and threats will undoubtedly come. Yet the freedom of speech restored will enable us all to defeat them.”
The former president has launched his own social media venture, Truth Social, in an effort to counter Twitter. Politico noted that as of Monday, he had only posted once on Truth Social.
