Vice President-elect J.D. Vance confirmed Friday that Daniel Penny will attend the Army-Navy football game this weekend as his personal guest.
“Daniel’s a good guy, and New York’s mob district attorney tried to ruin his life for having a backbone,” Vance wrote on the social media platform, X.
“I’m grateful he accepted my invitation and hope he’s able to have fun and appreciate how much his fellow citizens admire his courage,” the post continued.
The Army-Navy football game will take place Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. at the Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.
President-elect Donald Trump will also be attending the game.
Penny, a former Marine, was acquitted Monday by a Manhattan jury, after he put a homeless man in a chokehold on a subway last year, which prosecutors argued resulted in the man’s death. The man, Jordan Neely, was threatening to kill riders on a subway car.
The jury was deadlocked on a more serious charge last week, which resulted in the charge being dismissed, but they only debated the lesser charge briefly on Monday before finding Penny not guilty.
