Herschel Walker’s MOTHER is the latest family member to turn on him – after she rebutted the Georgia senate candidate’s recent claims that he is a Native American: Ex-NFL star’s son Christian also denounced him following abortion scandal
- Former NFL star Herschel Walker is running for Georgia Senate on the Republican ticket against freshman Democrat incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock
- Walker has battled a number of personal scandals in recent weeks, including a claim that he paid for the abortion of an ex-girlfriend
- The Heisman trophy winner turned political candidate has been on the campaign trail in Georgia telling voters he is part Native American
- An investigation indicates he may be significantly embellishing his connection to the Cherokee tribe
Republican Georgia Senate candidate and ex-NFL star Herschel Walker has been touring the state ahead of the midterm election saying he is Native American but his mom threw a flag at that claim.
At a series of campaign events in recent months, Walker has stated his mother is ‘a big part Native American,’ and that he is ‘proud to be black but…I may not be black,’ because had just learned that his mother is ‘part Native American.’
Most recently, in September, the candidate said his grandmother was a ‘full-blood Cherokee.’
The Walker campaign has not provided any evidence to suggest his claim about being a Cherokee is true, and a HuffPost report failed to turn up any concrete links between the former NFL player and the Native American community.
Walker’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Mail, nor from the HuffPost.
However, his mother – Christine – did. She told the outlet that she ‘has no idea if an immediate ancestor was full-blooded Cherokee.’
She said she had been raised hearing stories about her father’s mother – Herschel’s great-grandmother – being ‘kin’ to the tribe. Her grandmother, she said, was thought to be related to the Cherokee people, but she did not know precisely how.
She said she didn’t know ‘how far back’ the Cherokee lineage went.
‘See, my grandmother, she passed when I was quite young. I don’t know too much about how she was connected,’ said Christine.
Walker said in June he had made the discovery about his ancestors by using a 23andMe genetic testing kit.
‘My mom just told me… so I’m Native American. I was like, ‘Oh, hello,” he told the crowd at an event, adding that the realization makes him a ‘super mutt.’
‘I don’t know what I am, but this was so funny. This was so funny. I said, ‘Mom, why you never said anything to us?’ She said, ‘Back in my days, a lot of the Native Americans were treated worse than Blacks.” he said.
