Porn star agrees to cooperate as ex-President’s lawyers warn he could be indicted within days
- The meeting is the latest sign the probe is quickly advancing
- Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen spoke to grand jury this week
- Trump lawyer Joe Tacopina called a potential indictment ‘more probable’
Prosecutors met with porn star Stormy Daniels on Wednesday in their investigation into ‘hush’ payments paid on Donald Trump‘s behalf to cover up their alleged affair.
Her lawyer Clark Brewster tweeted that Daniels met and answered questions from Manhattan prosecutors, as the ex-president’s lawyers warned an indictment is coming.
Prosecutors have convened a grand jury looking into the 2016 payments totaling $130,000. Brewster tweeted that Daniels would make herself available as a witness or for further questions, if needed.
A message seeking comment was sent to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, thanked the attorney on social media for ‘helping me in our continuing fight for truth and justice.’
‘At the request of the Manhattan DA’s office Stormy Daniels and I met with prosecutors today,’ tweeted Brewster. ‘Stormy responded to questions and has agreed to make herself available as a witness, or for further inquiry if needed. #teamstormy’
His statement stopped short of saying Daniels would testify before the grand jury.
The news comes after Trump’s lawyer Joseph Tacopina called a potential indictment of the former president ‘more probable’ – after defending Trump’s claim not to have knowledge of hush payments to Stormy Daniels as ‘not a lie.’
He said Trump continues to deny the substance of the allegations of a sexual relationship, calling the $130,000 a ‘nuisance payment’ that wealthy or famous people sometimes pay to make a distracting situation disappear.
Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, who arranged the payments to Daniels, spoke to the grand jury in Manhattan this week. He appeared Monday and was back again Wednesday.
Cohen testified for three hours before a grand jury Monday. ‘This is all about accountability. He needs to be held accountable for his dirty deeds,’ Cohen said before his appearance, referencing Trump.
