Democrat Mary Peltola will become first native Alaskan in Congress as she snatches House seat from Republican – spoiling former governor’s long-awaited political comeback
Sarah Palin on Wednesday was defeated in the race to claim Alaska’s only seat in the U.S. House
Palin, 58, hoped to stage a political comeback in the state where she was governor
With 93 percent of the vote counted, her Democrat rival Mary Peltola had 51.5 percent, and Palin had 48.5 percent
The results came 15 days after the August 16 election, in line with the deadline for state elections officials to receive absentee ballots from outside the U.S.
Peltola tweeted: ‘It is a GOOD DAY’ – and then reminded voters that they needed to vote again in November, to secure the seat for the two-year term
Palin can run for the seat in the November election, and Peltola urged her supporters to keep donating to her campaign
