The White House is catching flak for using a new politically correct term for illegal migrants coming across the southern border: Newcomers.
The new term was unveiled in a little noticed ‘fact sheet’ on the White House website uploaded ahead of President Biden’s trip to the border in Brownsville, Texas, Thursday.
A $118 billion Senate border and foreign aid deal – including $20 billion on border security measures – spectacularly fell apart earlier this month to the ire of the Biden administration.
The fact sheet states that the bill would provide $1.4 billion in assistance to ‘cities and states who are providing critical services to newcomers, and would expedite work permits for people who are in the country and qualify.’
Eagle-eyed lawmakers immediately started slamming the White House for using the ‘misleading’ term ‘newcomers’ for migrants.
The White House is using ‘such dishonest and misleading language’ to trick Americas, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, R-Tenn., exclusively told DailyMail.com.
Americans ‘universally oppose providing billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal aliens,’ the chairman explained.
‘Illegal aliens’ is the legal term to describe individuals who do not immigrate through legal and official channels into the U.S.
Green said that illegal migrants will ‘demand resources at the expense of Americans’ as long as they remain in the U.S.
The chairman, who ‘vehemently’ opposed the Senate‘s proposed border deal, said that it would only put billions of dollars in the hands of NGOs ‘facilitating’ the border crisis.
‘I’m sure those who have recently arrived in our country through the legal immigration process will be surprised to learn ‘newcomers’ for President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas now include those who jumped the line to get in,’ he added to DailyMail.com.
The House Republican account on X slammed the White House’s use of the politically correct term.
‘Joe Biden is not serious about stopping the illegal immigration into the United States. This is a catastrophe by design,’ the account wrote on X.
Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., stated that Joe Biden ‘welcomes newcomers.’
‘For those not familiar, newcomers = illegal aliens on U.S. soil through breaking our laws. Many committing violent crimes, facilitating human and fentanyl trafficking and costing American taxpayers nearly $500 Billion.’
Jim Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, told DailyMail.com that the term ‘makes no sense to me.’
‘My guess is the family of Laken Riley doesn’t view them as guest and newcomers they would probably have a little different perspective, as would frankly, some of those police officers in New York who were assaulted a few weeks ago,’ he said.
A Venezuelan undocumented immigrant was arrested in the recent high-profile killing of Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student in Georgia.
Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, told DailyMail.com that the politically correct term enrages him.
‘Oh, that pisses me off,’ he said noting the death of Riley, who was just 22 years old.
‘I have a 23 year old daughter, and this is well beyond the politics in it. Wherever you live in this country you don’t feel safe. So would you call that illegal alien that killed Laken Riley a newcomer? I wouldn’t. I’d call them a criminal.’‘
‘Joe Biden is not serious,’ said Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla.
‘He’d rather waste people’s money as opposed to changing his policy,’ he told DailyMail.com.
‘So until he decides to change policy doesn’t mean a hill of beans what he calls people who come in or how much money he tries to spend that is not going to fix the issue.’
Federal data shows that over 7.3 million migrants have crossed into the country illegally since Biden took office in 2021.
Joe Biden and Donald Trump are making dueling visits to the border on Thursday as illegal immigrant remains a top issue headed into the 2024 election.
