Former President Donald Trump predicts an unprecedented red wave in next year’s midterm elections.

Bullish after a strong off-year Election Day for Republicans, Trump addressed the National Republican Congressional Committee in Florida on Monday, laying out a road map for what he touted as the future of the Republican Party and talking up what could be a bigger comeback than the GOP had in 2010, energized by the Tea Party movement, two years after Barack Obama won the White House and the Democrats secured a firm grip on Congress.

“I stand before you this evening to say that if we do our jobs, and if we stick together, then exactly one year from today, we are going to be watching a massive red wave sweep across this country — and we are going to be celebrating the election of the largest House Republican majority in American history,” he said, according to clips released by his office on Wednesday.

GOP successes in last week’s elections, including in Virginia and New Jersey , were “just the beginning,” Trump said. He also specifically touted the election of Ohio’s Mike Carey to Congress. In fact, Carey and three other candidates Trump endorsed won their respective contests, making for a 4-0 record .

House Republicans are targeting 70 Democratic districts as they look to run a replay of 2010, when the party netted 63 seats in midterm elections on its way to recapturing the majority in a historic electoral swing, according to a memo from the NRCC .

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy put the Democrats on notice after a strong Tuesday for the GOP, saying Republicans could flip 60 seats next year. “If you’re a Democrat and President Biden won your seat by 16 points, you’re in a competitive race next year. You are no longer safe,” the California Republican said .

Speaking to his view for a Republican agenda, Trump insisted supporters want action on ending the Biden administration’s “border crisis.” He said once Republicans take command of Congress, they should focus on making China “pay trillions of dollars for unleashing” COVID-19, banning Critical Race Theory, and, stopping federal taxpayer dollars from going to Big Tech “monopolies.”

The 2020 election was very much still on Trump’s mind. He called on Republicans to pass a “comprehensive election security overhaul that includes nationwide photo ID, chain of custody protection, signature verification, citizenship confirmation, and importantly, ensuring that every election can be fully and quickly audited. And especially, if you could get it, same day voting. One day, you vote, and the election’s over,” according to the excerpts of his speech.

“We have to make elections un-riggable,” Trump said. “Remember, we are not the ones trying to undermine American Democracy — we are the ones trying to save American Democracy.”

Trump also spoke to the conduct of the Republican Party versus that of the Democrats.

“Do not listen to anyone who tells you that the Republican Party needs to be ‘less divisive’ — let’s be clear, it is the radical left Marxists and socialists who are divisive, and it is by defeating their intolerance and aggression that we will unite America,” Trump declared.

The midterm elections will be decisive in determining what direction the Republican Party takes moving into 2024. Democrats have a tenuous grasp on both the House and Senate, and Trump has said in the past that he will wait until after the midterm elections to determine whether he will run again. That decision could affect who else may vie for the GOP nomination, including his former vice president, Mike Pence, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Nearly 10 months in, the Biden administration has walked a rocky road. The coronavirus pandemic, rising inflation, and a chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan have become defining parts of President Joe Biden’s tenure so far. His poll numbers have been sinking, but Biden has had some good news in recent days with an infrastructure win in Congress and a strong jobs report for October.

Still, Trump sees the proverbial blood in the water, and he set his sights on the reign of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and the entire Radical Democrat Party are headed for a political meltdown of unprecedented proportions. If Republicans can stick together, we can beat them in deep blue cities and states, and we can beat them anywhere — but we must stay unified. If we are united, we will end Nancy Pelosi’s political career once and for all,” he said.
