TOP O’ THE MORNIN’
How did the armed forces become so overrun with individuals no more intelligent than woke high school students?
Postmaster General Has Meltdown, Throws Tantrum in Congressional Hearing
For some time now, I’ve been saying that there is a crisis of competency in the federal government. Now, in the case of Louis DeJoy, we see that there is also a crisis of maturity. President-elect Trump, please find us a new U.S. Postmaster General!
Biden’s Teleprompter Goes Out During Speech; He Immediately Malfunctions
He’s failed at every turn. Forty-one days, and counting…
WHAT’S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill…
There are more meetings and hearings and such on the Hill on Wednesday, including:
- House Budget — Sounding the Alarm: Pathways and Possible Solutions to the U.S. Fiscal Crisis
- House Foreign Affairs — An Assessment of the State Department’s Withdrawal from Afghanistan by America’s Top Diplomat — Secretary of State Antony Blinken to testify
- House Foreign Affairs — Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations Subcommittee
- Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Communication, Media, and Broadband — Hearings to examine communications networks safety and security
- Senate Rules and Administration — An oversight hearing to examine the United States Capitol Police
These follow a fairly hectic Tuesday, which included more nominee meetings with senators, a House hearing where the Postmaster General threw a tantrum, and a member of Congress being physically assaulted in the Rayburn Office Building.
In other news, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will be heading back to Mar-a-Lago this weekend to powwow with President-elect Donald Trump and attend the Army-Navy game with him.
White House What’s Up
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill will start Wednesday by delivering remarks and hosting the first-ever White House Conference on Women’s Health Research. In the afternoon, the president will receive his Daily Brief.
Full Court Press…
There’s only one argument before the Supreme Court on Wednesday:
Dewberry Group, Inc. v. Dewberry Engineers Inc. — Okay, this one is rather esoteric, so I’m just going to include the provided description and leave it at that:
Whether an award of the “defendant’s profits” under the Lanham Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1117 (a), can include an order for the defendant to disgorge the distinct profits of legally separate non-party corporate affiliates.
Would-be Trump assassin No. 2, Ryan Routh, is seeking a year-long continuance of his criminal trial in the Southern District of Florida. The Government has weighed in, consenting to a “reasonable” continuance but disputing that a full year is reasonable. There’s a status conference with the court on Wednesday — expect Judge Aileen Cannon to rule on the continuance request at or shortly after the hearing.
And while we await the ruling from the New York appellate court regarding Trump’s civil fraud appeal, New York Attorney General Letitia James is adamant that she won’t back down. (She just can’t quit him.)
MORNING MUSING
We’re officially two weeks from Christmas and I…have next to zero Christmas shopping done. I referred in a previous musing to the importance of not getting so caught up in the trappings that we forget to be present. By the same token, I don’t intend to forego presents for my loved ones. So today will be List Day — making my list and checking it twice. Once I have that situated, I’m optimistic I can knock the bulk of it out by early next week. ‘Course…then there’s the wrapping…Maybe I should just get everyone drones. I hear they’re all the rage this year.
