Dr. Anthony Fauci announced Sunday that Americans who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can celebrate the holidays together
He said: ‘I believe strongly that if you’re vaccinated and your family members are vaccinated, those who are eligible, that you can enjoy the holidays’
Fauci argued that celebrating together is one of the main reasons health experts emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated
He also said getting the shot is important ‘for your own safety, for that of your family, and for the good of the community, to keep the level of infection down’
This recommendation comes just two weeks after he argued it was ‘too soon’ to say whether Americans can gather for Christmas
To date, the US has administered 107 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine
Approximately 65.8 percent of the US population has received at least one COVID shot and 57.3 percent has been fully vaccinated
