Kathy Griffin shared an image of Jack Smith holding up Trump’s severed head, with the caption “finally.” The image is a reference to one Griffin posted in May 2017, in which she was depicted holding the severed head of President Donald Trump. She was banned on Twitter over the image, though was later reinstated after Elon Musk took over the platform, renaming it X.
The image was posted after Jack Smith, who serves as special counsel for Biden’s Department of Justice with the specific task of investigating and bringing charges against Biden’s top political rival, served Trump with an indictment for “conspiracy” charges relating to the aftermath of the 2020 election. Griffin apparently feels emboldened now to go after Trump again now that the Biden administration is doing the same thing.
Griffin was essentialy cancelled for the initial post, as it joked about brutally assasinating the current head of state. The head was a bloodied Halloween mask. She was threatened with charges for a conspiracy to assassinate the president, and she was put on a no-fly list temporarily.
Griffin, who outright hated Trump during his presidency, is now celebrating his political prosecution. What ticked Griffin off the most about Trump, causing her to post the decapitation image, were comments Trump made about Megyn Kelly after she had moderated a presidential debate.
Trump had said “there was blood coming out of her eyes,” and apparently this was a comment strong enough that Griffin thought he should be mocked with threat of death.
The criticism against Griffin came from both right and left. Griffin claimed that it was a joke, but she lost her spokeperson deal with Squatty Potty and lost her appearance on CNN’s annual New Year’s broadcast with Anderson Cooper.
Griffin apologized for the tweet, but later retracted her apology.
