This is probably the most disgusting thing Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney has ever done.

A new report from a local news outlet reveals that Romney tried to emotionally blackmail Republican lawmakers into supporting Democrats’ insanely partisan January 6th investigation commission.

Romney “emotional blackmailed” Republican lawmakers in a publicity stunt by meeting with a widow of a now-dead security guard who used to work at the U.S. Capitol when the January 6th protest happened.

Then, Romney exploited the mother and used what she said to “convince” Republicans to support the highly partisan commission.

Deseret News confirms that Mitt Romney had a meeting with the widow of Brain Sicknick, who served as a security guard who died just weeks after working during the January 6th Capitol protests.

However, research shows that Officer Sicknick’s death was not related to the January 6th protest.

Sicknick actually a stroke that is unrelated to the Capitol protests.

The Washington Post reported (emphasis ours):

Capitol Police officer Brian D. Sicknick suffered two strokes and died of natural causes a day after he confronted rioters at the Jan. 6 insurrection, the District’s chief medical examiner has ruled. The ruling, released Monday, likely will make it difficult for prosecutors to pursue homicide charges in the officer’s death. Two men are accused of assaulting Sicknick by spraying a powerful chemical irritant at him during the siege.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Francisco J. Diaz, the medical examiner, said the autopsy found no evidence the 42-year-old officer suffered an allergic reaction to chemical irritants, which Diaz said would have caused Sicknick’s throat to quickly seize. Diaz also said there was no evidence of internal or external injuries. The medical examiner noted Sicknick was among the officers who engaged the Capitol mob and said ‘all that transpired played a role in his condition.’

The U.S. Senate failed to reach the 60 votes necessary to advance a bill creating a commission to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol mayhem.

In a vote of 54 – 35, the measure was the first legislative filibuster of the Biden presidency.

Six Republicans broke ranks to join every Democrat in favor.

The six Republicans who voted in favor of the commission were Sens. Bill Cassidy (La.), Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Mitt Romney (Utah), and Ben Sasse (Neb.).

Before the vote last week, Schumer had a total meltdown of Republicans not supporting the partisan Jan. 6 Commission from Democrats.

Below is a transcript of Schumer’s meltdown:

Nothing is more corrosive to our democracy than a view that elections are not on the level. Yet that has been propagated by Donald Trump and many of his allies. A commission can get to the bottom of this in a clear way.

So this is right down the middle. If our Republican friends vote against this, I would ask them, what are you afraid of? The truth? Are you afraid that Donald Trump’s big lie will be dispelled? Are you afraid that all of the misinformation that has poured out will be rebutted by a bipartisan, down-the-middle commission? This is about democracy.

This is about the future of our democracy. The big lie has eroded that democracy and we must do everything we can to rebut it. This is not a Democratic or Republican obligation, this is an American obligation.

Our democracy, our beautiful, more than two-century-old democracy is at more risk because of the lies that have been perpetrated by President Trump and his allies than it has been in a very long time and this commission is a great antidote to that. So I hope we can get broad support to move forward. I will speak more on this issue after the vote.

Last week, the Democratic-controlled U.S. House of Representatives has passed one of the most partisan bills imaginable.

The House passed a bill 213 – 212 that will provide $1.9 billion for “additional security measures” at the U.S. Capitol.
