Squad member Cori Bush now calls for reparations and ‘black liberation’ after House votes to make Juneteenth a ‘National Independence Day’ federal holiday – after 14 GOP Reps said it forces Americans to pick between June 19 and July 4

  • Rep. Cori Bush, indicated that there’s more to be done for black Americans than mark Juneteenth, the end of slavery in the U.S., as a federal holiday
  • ‘It’s Juneteenth AND reparations. It’s Juneteenth AND end police violence + the War on Drugs,’ she tweeted Wednesday night
  • She also pushed for the end of ‘housing + education apartheid’ and teaching people the ‘truth about white supremacy in our country’
  • ‘Black liberation in its totality must be prioritized,’ she encouraged
  • Bush’s comments came as the House of Representatives voted to make Juneteenth a federal holiday Wednesday night
  • 14 Republicans voted against June 19th becoming a ‘National Independence Day’ because they believe it would create ‘confusion’ with Independence Day
  • GOP Rep. Thomas Massie said it will ‘push Americans to pick one of those two days as their Independence Day based on their racial identity’
